Canon EF-S 17-85 mm f/4-5.6 IS USM

6. Distortion

The Canon didn’t impress us either in this category. We do have a wide angle of view at the 17 mm focal length but at the same time we get a very big barrel distortion of -5.7%. We have to admit and applaud the Canon that the distortion drops very quickly and at 30 mm it is almost invisible (0.6%). At higher focal lengths the distortion increases a little bit up to 1.2-1.3% and stays like this up to 85 mm focal length.
