6. Distortion

A varifocal lens with a large focal length range and a wide angle is always vulnerable to distortion. How did the Nikkor 18-200 mm deal with distortion correction? At 18 mm it is without a doubt very weak. A clear barrel distortion at a level of -5.4% is noticeable here. When the focal lengths increase, the distortion starts decreasing and at 24 mm its value reaches -1.8%. Later on/going further it changes into pincushion distortion and at 35 mm reaches an acceptable value of 0.76%. When the focal length grows further the distortion increases and at 50 mm it reaches 1.59%, but then it drops to 1.46% for 100 mm and 1.21% for 200 mm.
