10. Autofocus
The autofocus mechanism is difficult to fault – it works silently and quickly. It runs through the whole scale, no matter from what end, in less than 0.5 second.
It is hard to write something constructing about its accuracy, though. We dealt here with a situation which is rare in lenses with such short focal lengths and so big depth of field. The Nikkor 10-24 mm, after connecting to our editorial D200 camera, which seldom had any problems with Nikkors or even Sigmas tested on it, showed such a significant “front focus” in the 17-24 mm range that it practically wasn’t able hit the test chart target one single time. I mean every autofocus setting were much worse than those I got focusing manually. The front focus tendency was really huge, which can be seen in the photo below.
