Sony Carl Zeiss Planar T* 85 mm f/1.4

8. Vignetting

In this category the tested lens handles quite well. With the wide-open aperture the light falloff in the corners of the frame is 21% (-0.70 value of the stop). Stopping down to f/2.0 eliminates the problem practically totally, minimising it to the level of 8%. It was much easier to Canon and Nikkor because, with the maximum light reaching f/1.8 they noted vignetting at the level of adequately 22% and 15%. If we compared all these lenses at f/2.0 stop then Zeiss with a score 8% would be a leader, leaving Nikkora (11%) and Canona (17%) easily behind.

An interesting thing is the oval shape of the contours reflecting the vignetting. It is perfectly seen on the below photograph. It is not the effect of a bad lighting of the chart, since it is present at all our photos, between which the body was turned of the 90 degrees angle.
