Tamron AF 18-270 mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Asph. (IF) MACRO

7. Coma and astigmatism

The coma is noticeable in the 18-50 mm range and it becomes really low at the longer focal lengths In this category the Tamron can be assessed positively, then.

Tamron AF 18-270 mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Asph. (IF) MACRO - Coma and astigmatism

A big amount of elements traveling long distances doesn’t exactly create favourable conditions for correcting the astigmatism. We worried about the Tamron’s performance here and its level of this aberration. Unfortunately our fears were fully confirmed by our measurements and the average difference between horizontal and vertical MTF50 values amounted to as much as 15%. The Tamron gives a weak performance compared to that of the Nikkor (the result of 4.6%) and the Sigma (9%) although it is still better than the Sony 18-200 mm which had the result reaching 20%.
