Lens review
Nikon Nikkor AF-S 70-200 mm f/2.8G ED VR II
6. Distortion
We would like to start this chapter by reminding the performance of the older Nikkor AF-S 70–200 mm f/2.8G IF-ED VR in this category. At the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the focal lengths range on the Nikon D200 sensor it got the following results: −0.54%, 0.49% and 0.87% respectively. Analogous results of the new Nikkor 70-200 mm, tested here, are: −0.26%, 0.49% and 0.70%. As you see, although the results of its predecessor were good, the new lens fares even a tad better.
On full frame the results are of course higher but still there’s nothing to carp about. At 70 mm the distortion is –0.78%, in the middle of the focal lengths range it reaches 0.85% and at the maximum focal length it goes as high as 1.39%.
