8. Vignetting

We were very curious how the tested lens would fare in this category. On the one hand the Pentax 4/15 is slow when it comes to its aperture and designed to work with a small sensor; on the other hand it is a wide angle lens and its dimensions are slight. How does the vignetting look in practice? One glance at crops presented below will allow you to assess it.

At the maximum relative aperture the relative brightness loss in the frame corners amounts to 36% (-1.30 EV). This value is hardly low but also we shouldn’t despair here. On stopping down to f/5.6 we see the vignetting level dropping to 21% (-0.67 EV). The problem becomes imperceptible by f/8.0, where the light fall-off in the frame corners is just 10% (-0.30 EV).
