1. Introduction

I’ve never tried to conceal the fact that an idea of small mirrorless cameras entices me the most when you join them with little fixed-focal lenses with a good image quality and an aperture noticeably better than that of “kit” zoom lens. We don’t always have to deal with pancake lenses here. “Primes” with just a tad bigger dimensions than the “pancakes” but still relatively small, also fit this concept nicely.

What’s interesting, the producer which has been investing strongly into fixed-focal lenses from the very beginning was Samsung. Currently, you can find three small ‘primes’ with the focal lengths of 16 mm, 20 mm and 30 mm in this company’s line-up. Their properties are summarized in  the following chart. When you add to it the 2.8/60 Macro and the 1.4/85 lenses, which have just been launched on the market or merely announced, you get a system which is as close to perfection as it is only possible.

So far we’ve tested only the standard 2/30 lens from that group. We liked its optical and mechanical properties very much and we praised it a lot. Now, courtesy of the Samsung company, we could have a closer look at another device, manufactured by them – the NX 16 mm f/2.4 model.
