Pentax smc DA 50 mm f/1.8

7. Coma, astigmatism and bokeh

Unfortunately the Pentax 1.8/50 doesn’t manage to correct the coma well and the level of that aberration is really high. Still you can correct coma on a smaller detector in the right way and the results of the Sony 1.8/50 or the Nikkor AF-S 50 mm f/1.8 G. are the proof.

The astigmatism performance looks much better. The average difference between horizontal and vertical MTF50 values amounted to only 4% and it is a very good result.

Near the maximum relative aperture the light spread in defocused circles remains more or less even. You can’t notice any circular rings and the rim on the edge is slight. On more significant stopping down the rim’s intensity increases; still the overall image is good so the lens should provide blurs which are nice and pleasant for most of users.
