Voigtlander Color Skopar 28 mm f/2.8 SL II

6. Distortion

When it comes to distortion you shouldn’t complain too much. On the smaller sensor of the Canon 50D we noticed barrel distortion amounting to -0.99% which increased to -1.54% when we passed to full frame. Such results are, within the margin of error, almost the same as in the case of the Canon EF 28 mm f/2.8 IS USM, tested by us not so long ago. If a “pancake” corrects an off-axis aberration as well as a full-size lens there is really nothing to carp about.

It’s worth noticing that this type of instruments really predominates over zoom lenses in this category – if the zooms give you 75-80 degrees angles of view at the shortest focal length their distortion reaches often -4% and if you use the “pancake”, tested here, you can practically say goodbye to that aberration.
