10. Autofocus

When the autofocus is activated you can hear nothing but a distinct whirr of the moving elements. The mechanism is very fast – running through the whole distance range and finding the right position takes about 0.4 of a second. The autofocus is slightly faster when progressing from the short to the longer end of the scale than the other way round; it is caused by the fact that the oscillation near the proper focus position, due to the contrast detection focusing method, is a bit more pronounced when you set the focus on objects positioned closer.

The accuracy of the focusing mechanism is perfect. In studio conditions the set consisting of the X-E1 camera and the Fujinon 2.8/27 didn’t miss one single time.

When it comes to the front or back focus tendency we didn’t notice any problems either.
