10. Autofocus

Zeiss used to offer autofocus lenses only for Sony cameras; the Canon, Nikon, Pentax, M or M42 mount instruments were always manual. Now the situation changed a bit and the owners of mirrorless Fujifilm and Sony cameras can enjoy autofocus Zeiss lenses as well.

When you use the autofocus of the tested Touit you can hear slight and not especially bothersome buzz. Its speed is good: with the lens attached to the Fujifilm X-E1 with the latest software version installed running through the whole distance scale takes about 0.5 of a second which is a very good result, especially as the scale is rather wide here. In normal shooting conditions the autofocus performs without any problems. When you work on shorter distances, in worse lighting conditions or when the object of your photos doesn’t especially contrast against the background the instrument can get lost and dither to and fro in order to find the right position which, obviously, takes more time.

Still in well-lit studio conditions the set consisting of the Touit 2.8/50M plus the Fuji X-E1 camera managed very well, with the number of misses never exceeding 1-2%.

We didn’t have any front or back focus problems either.
