Cons: Small aperture, macro ability inferior to oly 1442, size bigger than oly counterpart

Pros: Very sharp for a kit lens, distortion minimal after correction, useful focal length, effective OIS

Summary: A very good standard zoom for M4/3. I got tired of the fixed angle of view of the 20 1.7, so I bought this lens and I do not regret. Though it significantly increases the size of the GF1, it is still relatively small compared to SLRs.

Cons: Small apertures best avoided because they give very soft results. It took me ages to realise than anything lower than f8 is hardly ever needed.

Pros: A versatile lens. Very good results all around the frame and throughout the zoom range. Sharpening of RAW images is always needed though and the default Lightroom and ACR settings will rarely be enough.

Summary: By all accounts a far better standard kit lens than anything Olympus have thus far produced. Presumably Panasonic provided the inferior 14-42mm on later cameras simply to keep the prices down. A very good lens indeed.
