Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 12-60 mm f/2.8-4.0 SWD

1. Introduction

At the beginning of March 2007 the Olympus company announced the launch of four new Zuiko lenses. Among them was the Zuiko Digital ED 12-60 mm f/2.8-4.0 SWD model – a lens unique in more than one way.

First thing worth noticing was the focal lengths range, the equivalent of the full frame 24-120 mm. Although interesting in itself, was in a sense already deposed by Sony ( a Zeiss 16-80 mm and a Sony 16-105 mm). However, no other system with such an interesting range has offered such fastness, an ultra-sonic SWD motor and a fully sealed barrel so far. What’s more, the Olympus company decided to keep its price at a reasonable level, offering this lens for around 950 $. It is perhaps not a small sum of money anyway but when you compare it with the prices of other universal lenses with similar parameters manufactured by competitors it really looks enticing.

How can the Zuiko Digital ED 12-60 MM F/2.8- 4.0 SWD present itself in real-world use? Did the Four Thirds system sensor, a bit less demanding for lenses, help him to reach the results its competitors can only dream of? Courtesy of the Fotozakupy.pl shop we were given an opportunity to find out. We invite you to do the same by reading the following chapters.
