The following chart presents a comparison between basic parameters of different 24-25 mm f/1.8-2.0 lenses designed for full frame mirrorless cameras. On the one end of the spectrum you get the big and heavy Nikkor and on the other - a lightweight, small Samyang, with the casing dominanted by plastics. Compared to them, the Sigma, made almost completely of metal, fits right in the middle and seems a very sensible choice – it is neither too big, nor too heavy.
In the photo below the described lens is positioned between the Canon EF 35 mm f/2 IS USM and the Sigma A 35 mm f/1.4 DG HSM.
The Sigma C 24 mm f/2 DG DN starts with a metal mount surrounding contacts and a rear element, 27 mm in diameter. That element doesn't move and is positioned quite shallowly inside the casing. Additionally, it is sheltered by a black 30x25 mm frame that slightly coincides with the field of view. The interior of the mount is properly blackened and matted – from this side everything looks as it should.

The proper body of the lens starts with a metal, smooth ring painted black. The ring features a lot of information: an inscription with the name and parameters of the lens, the producer's logo, the 'C' letter, meaning the lens belongs to the 'Contemporary' series, '021' numbers meaning the model year of the lens, its serial number, finally a white dot, making an alignment with a camera easier, and a focusing mechanism mode switch (AF/MF).
Then you see an aperture ring, 12 mm wide, with protruding ribs on both sides to ensure a firmer grip and better ergonomics. The ring comes with aperture markings from f/2.0 to f/22, with intermediary positions every 1/3 EV, and an (A). value that allows you automatic control of parameters from the level of a camera menu. Its performance is beyond reproach.
Then you see an immobile part of the casing with an inscription 'MADE IN JAPAN' and the focusing mechanism range:„0.245M/0.804FEET–∞”
The next ring,17 mm wide, is used for manual focusing. It doesn't feature any markings and its main part is ribbed to improve your grip. It is a focus-by-wire construction and it moves quite smoothly. Even if you turn it quite quickly the focus throw amounts to over 400 degrees, a huge value, certainly allowing you very precise settings.
The lens ends with an immobile, metal ring on which you can find a hood mount. The mount is surrounded by a non-rotating filter thread, 62 mm in diameter.
The front element, slightly convex, is 34 mm in diameter and it doesn't move. It is surrounded by a black fragment of casing, this time without any inscriptions.
When it comes to optical construction you deal here with 13 elements positioned in 11 groups. One element is made of low dispersion FLD glass with properties similar to those of fluorite, two others are made of low dispersion SLD glass, and the following two are aspherical.Inside you can also find a round aperture with nine blades which can be closed down to a value of f/22 at the maximum.
Buyers get in the box: a metal hood, a rear cap and two front caps – one classic, made of plastics, the other magnetic and made of metal, a really cool solution. Series C instruments accessory kits don't include any kind of case.
