Sigma A 24 mm f/1.4 DG DN – first impressions and sample images

4. Summary

The new Sigma A 24 mm f/1.4 DG DN is a lens narrower, physically lighter, and it offers a smaller filter diameter than its DSLR predecessor. It also features more optical elements. These changes should be noted and praised.

Still, some rivals might be for the Sigma a certain problem. As in the case of the 20 mm focal length no other producer offers a model as fast, aperture-wise as f/1.4, the 24 mm class features the Sony FE 24 mm f/1.4 GM and that lens raises the bar very high. It is smaller and lighter than the Sigma, with a possibility of attaching smaller filters; what's more, its minimum focus distance is shorter. The Sigma has as many as four elements more and it might suggest a better image quality, especially on the edge of full frame but only a full test will prove or disprove this suggestion.

Of course it doesn't change the fact that all new Sigma launches are a joy to see. Art series lenses are optically very good with superior build quality. The more such models on the market the better – I suppose, all photography fans will agree with me.
