1. Introduction

In 2016-18 Sigma launched three fixed focal length Contemporary series lenses as fast, aperture-wise, as f/1.4. They were designed for mirrorless cameras with sensors smaller than full frame - we think here about models with focal lengths of 16, 30, and 56 mm. At the beginning you could buy them in three mount versions: the L-mount, the Sony E and the Micro 4/3. Lately also Canon EF-M and Fujifilm X versions have been added.

All of these lenses we've had an opportunity to test and we wrote about them in superlatives only – their optical properties were very good, even splendid, and their prices – very moderate. It is not a big surprise they've gained a lot of satisfied users.

Still, four and a half years passed since the last launch and some have started to wonder whether Sigma gave up on other Contemporary models entirely. The answer was provided on 3rd April 2023 when the launch of three new lenses was anounced, the Sigma C 23 mm f/1.4 DC DN model among them, a very nice complementation of three previous lenses as it is an equivalent of the classic, full frame 35 mm device. The following chart shows a comparison between basic parameters of all lenses from this series.

Courtesy of K-Consult, the official Sigma representative for Poland, we were given an opportunity to handle it before the official launch as we were sent a pre-production specimen. That allowed us to present our hands-on impressions and a gallery of sample shots - enjoy!
