Sigma C 50 mm f/2 DG DN – first impressions and sample images

1. Introduction

I've repeated it several times in my texts: I dream of a producer who will be able to offer a whole set of shapely, solid, optically good prime lenses as fast as f/1.8-2.0 for full frame. Currently Sigma seems to be the closest to this goal, as their Contemporary series has filled many gaps on the market.

It all started in December 2020, with the launch of the C 35 mm /2 DG DN and the 65 mm f/2 DG DN. Especially that latter proved to be a very well-put-together instrument, being up to now one of the sharpest Sony FE system lenses I have ever tested. In September 2021 the line-up was enlarged by the Sigma C 24 mm f/2 DG DN and in February 2022 they added the Sigma C 20 mm f/2 DG DN.

On 3rd April 2023 we found out that this producer hadn't said the last word yet. Among three new lenses, presented on that day, there was the Sigma C 50 mm f/2 DG DN so a classic standard lens.

The following chart presents a comparison between different f/2.0 models we mentioned in this section.

Courtesy of K-Consult, the official Sigma representative for Poland, we were given an opportunity to handle the new lens before the official launch as we were sent a pre-production specimen. That allowed us to present our hands-on impressions and a gallery of sample shots- enjoy!
