Canon EF 85 mm f/1.2L II USM

9. Ghosting and flares

The work against bright light was the next category which interested us very much. A large front element must catch some of the side rays of light. How does it influence the image? We can write that it is noticeable, especially at maximum aperture, where such artifacts, as presented below, are easy to catch. On stopping down the situation improves a lot. What’s interesting, though, is the fact that in this category the pricey Canon fares not better than the cheap, manual Samyang 85 mm f/1.4.
