6. Distortion

Let’s deal with the lens’s performance on a smaller APS-C/DX sensor first. The appropriate photo of the test chart, taken with a Nikon D200 can be found below.

You can notice a slight barrel distortion which value we assessed as −1.23%. Perhaps it is not much but on a small sensor the tested lens behaves as if it was a 42 mm instrument on full frame. It is almost a classic standard and in such a case the demands concerning distortion are a bit higher. Overall, there are no reasons to carp about, especially that the full frame performance surprises us very nicely – it’s enough to look at the photo below to form an opinion about it.

Here the distortion reaches a level of – 1.63% so not much higher than that on a small sensor. Because of that, and taking into account the field of view we get here, the degree of geometric deformation correction should certainly be deemed satisfactory.
