The autofocus of the tested lens is silent and very quick. Running through the scale takes just half of a second, no matter from what end. Such a result is even more impressing when you take into account the fact that running through the scale also demands a 160 degrees turn of the manual focus ring. We haven’t noticed any difference in speed and noise (or rather silence) between the work on the 50D and on the 1Ds MkIII.

There was, though, a slight difference in accuracy of the mechanism. What’s interesting, the lens on the 50D fared better than on the 1Ds MkIII. In a case of the former, the number of misses in studio conditions reached just 1% and in a case of the latter it increased to 4%. Both these results are very good (in fact, they are on average outstanding) and they give no reason to complaining, especially that on neither of the bodies we saw any front or back focus tendencies.
