Lens review

Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* FE 55 mm f/1.8 ZA

10. Autofocus

The autofocus of the Zeiss Sonnar 1.8/55 FE combined with the A7RII camera is noiseless and fast. Running through the whole distance range and finding the focus point takes about 0.5 of a second, no matter from what end the mechanism starts. That speed doesn’t change in worse lighting conditions either.

The accuracy of the mechanism is also very good. In our testing studio the number of misses didn’t exceed 1%; we didn’t notice any problems during normal, everyday usage of the lens or developing sample shots either.

Finally the lens didn’t show any distinct front or back focus tendencies.
