10. Autofocus

In the case of the Sigma and the Olympus E-M5 II set the autofocus of the tested lens is completely noiseless and very fast. Running through the whole distance scale and confirming the focus takes 0.2-0.3 of a second and that value doesn’t depend on the direction of work and lighting conditions. It’s a really impressive performance.

If you test the lens with the help of the Sony A7R II the situation is a bit different. The mechanism stays noiseless but the speed is no longer that good. The focusing time increases to 0.5-0.7 of a second on average and is very unpredictable, depending on the situation. The lens often moves in the wrong direction, then returns and set the focus properly. Compared to the Sigma plus the Olympus combination performance, the focus hunting near the right position can be more significant and last longer.

Fortunately in both cases the lens had no accuracy problems. Most of photos were sharp, with focus set exactly where we wanted it to be. We also didn’t have any front or back focus tendency problems and the shots below are the proof.
