1. Introduction

The number of full frame Sony FE lenses has been expanding very quickly. As original Sony and Zeiss devices are hardly among the cheapest, many independent producers have seen their chance in that segment. The Korean Samyang is among them – they have produced manual devices for many years and when they decided to launch an autofocus lens, they chose the Sony FE system. As a result, currently, the Samyang line-up features over 20 instruments designed for full frame mirrorless Sony cameras, including four autofocus devices.

The Samyang AF 35 mm f/1.4 FE is the newest model produced by that company; its full specifications were released in October 2017 and in the first quarter of the next year the lens hit shelves in different countries. It’s worth emphasizing that it was priced at about $800 so over two time less than the price tag of the original Zeiss Sony FE 35 mm f/1.4 Distagon T* ZA.
