6. Distortion

The chart below shows distortion results reached by full frame lenses with focal lengths close to 40 mm we’ve had an opportunity to test so far.

What’s understandable, the results of the Sigma A 1.4/40 (−0.38% on the APS-C/DX sensor and −0.74% on full frame) can be placed exactly between the results of the Sigmas A 1.4/35 and the A 1.4/50. Still, it is an interesting thing that the small Canon EF 40 mm f/2.8 STM had almost exactly the same distortion level as the massive Sigma. Of course it should be emphasized that, when it comes to absolute terms, distortion noticeably lower than one is very difficult to notice and it won’t be bothersome in real life photos at all. In this category the tested lens should be assessed very positively indeed.
