5. Chromatic and spherical aberration

Chromatic aberration

The APO letters in the name of the lens oblige to something and we are pleased to say Laowa's promises are not empty in this category. The photo, shown below, proves that the tested lens doesn't have any problems with longitucinal chromatic aberration. Even at the maximum relative aperture and in blurry areas positioned further away colouring is barely discernible.

What about the correction of lateral chromatic aberration? Let's glance at a graph, shown below.

It is clear aberration decreases swiftly on stopping down the lens. The highest results are positioned on the borderline between moderate and medium values so even close to the maximum relative aperture you don't have any reasons to complain. Chromatic aberration reaches a very low level and stops being bothersome when you employ working apertures typical for macro lenses.

Spherical aberration

The lens didn't show any 'focus shift' effect so we don't have any reasons s to suspect that spherical aberration might not be properly corrected. Very high MTFs values we saw by f/2.8 are another proof. Still spherical aberration can't be corrected in a perfect manner because defocused circles of light we got before the focus have soft edges and the circles after the focus feature a noticeably brighter rims.
