We are very glad that Nikon optics specialists didn't follow the steps of other systems which leave distortion to be corrected by software of the camera. Nowadays optical constructions feature more elements than previously and there are more possibilities to use exotic types of glass as they are more widespread. It means that there are more opportunities to construct lenses which performance is optimized with all aberrations in mind, not only a few chosen ones. I am glad Nikon proved that they understand these facts well.
