10. Autofocus

The autofocus of the tested lens joined with the Sony A7R II camera is noiseless and quite slow. Running through the whole distance range and confirming the focus can take even over 1.5 of a second. Most of the time is lost due to focus hunting near the proper location. Still you should defend the Tamron a bit because its focusing range is much wider than that of its direct rivals.

The fact that, after finding the proper focus position the lens never misses, is also a bit consoling. Certainly the significant depth of field helps here but, nevertheless, the accuracy of the mechanism remains beyond reproach.

The lens also didn't have any problems with front and back focus tendencies. With photographs taken from a very close distance you can notice a slight shift of DOF toward greater distances but the proper object remains sharp. That effect might also stem from the curvature of field so it is not necessarily a flaw of the autofocus.
