Nikon Nikkor Z 24-70 mm f/2.8 S II
7. Coma, astigmatism and bokeh
To sum up you can say it would be difficult to have any more serious objections to the coma correction of the new Nikkor Z 24-70 mm f/2.8 S II.

In order to make our test more interesting, we show images of a bright star put in the frame corner. This time we used just extreme focal lengths, but we also showed the influence of stopping down on the aberration described here. In this case results are very similar to the results of our diode image tests.

Astigmatism, understood as an average difference between vertical and horizontal MTF50 function values, amounted to 7.4% and it is a moderate value. We didn't notice any significant differences between particular focal lengths, although officially, the lowest result we got by 24 mm and the highest – in the middle of the range. Compared to the predecessor, the official result is a tad higher but the whole difference is within the margin of measuring error so you can say that both lens present here a similarly good level.
Defocused circles of light look well for a zoom lens. Using as many as three aspherical elements caused the onion ring bokeh but, fortunately, it is not especially pronounced. As a kind of consolation, you can say that mechanical vignetting disappears completely already on stopping down the aperture by 2 EV.
