1. Introduction

Every new photographic system launched on the marked strives for offering decently fast lenses with an angle of view of a classical full frame 50 mm device. The Mircro 4/3 is no exception to that rule. What’s interesting, Panasonic have been far more active in this category than Olympus. Already in 2009 they released the Panasonic G 20 mm f/1.7 ASPH pancake which could be used as a bit wider ‘standard’ lens without any problems. In 2011 due to the cooperation with the Leica company their offer was enlarged by the Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25 mm f/1.4 ASPH. Olympus entered that focal lengths segment only in 2014, by presenting the M.Zuiko Digital 25 mm f/1.8 model.

The line-up has been growing with an addition of manual instruments such as the Voigtlander, the Mitakon or the SLR Magic; still in order to be truly competitive, the Mirco 4/3 system needed a really cheap standard lens. After all there are no problems whatsoever when it comes to buying a 1.8/50 lens designed for full frame reflex cameras and it might cost less than 1000 PLN. Similar thing can be said about some of APS-C/DX reflex cameras: you can find plenty of 1.8/35 lenses dedicated for smaller sensors with a price tag of just several hundred PLN.

After a while the Panasonic company decided to follow that direction as well. In September 2015 they announced the Lumix G 25 mm f/1.7 ASPH., which several months later found its way to shops with a price tag of 800 PLN or so.

As we like testing instruments with a favourable quality/price ratio very much, we asked the Polish branch of the Panasonic company to lend us the lens for our tests. They reacted incredibly quick so right now we are able to share our impressions– enjoy!
