Sony Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar 24-70 mm f/2.8 T* SSM

1. Introduction

Originally posted 2008-02-06 on Optyczne.pl

Right before the PMA fairs, which took place from 31 January to 2 February 2008, the Sony company announced a launch of two new lenses. One of them was the Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar 24-70 mm f/2.8 T* SSM. The launch of that lens was a clear sign that Sony decided to enter the full frame reflex cameras market and wants to fight for the interest of professional photographers. A fully professional lens with the field of view ranging from 84 to 34 degrees, excellent f/2.8 fastness, a housing made of high quality materials and an ultrasonic autofocus motor – these are features indispensable for any universal journalistic device.

The price of the lens, its weight, dimensions and, of course, the Zeiss brand name, promise a lot and raise standards very high. How the lens will fare in reality, though? As the Sony Poland company lent us the lens for testing purposes in fact more a dozen or so hours after its world-wide launch, we are able to answer this question very quickly. Happy reading!
