The Air series of lenses produced by Viltrox was launched in October 2023, with the full frame 2.8/20 model. A bit later, in April 2024, this line of lenses was enlarged by lenses designed for smaller sensors – at that time the company launched the Viltrox AR 56 mm f/1.7 Air offered as Fujifilm X, Nikon Z and Sony E mount versions.
Very soon it became obvious that this series was going to be developed in a very dynamic way. Even in December 2024 the standard Viltrox AF 35 mm f/1.7 Air was launched and 2025 brought us launches of wide angle models in a shape of the Viltrox AF 25 mm f/1.7 Air and AF 15 mm f/1.7 AF – the following chart presents a comparison between basic parameters of all these lenses.
It's also worth mentioning the fact that the Air series has been developed simultaneously in the full frame segment. In April 2024 they launched the Viltrox AF 40 mm f/2.5 Air and in February 2025 they showed the Viltrox AF 50 mm f/2.0 Air. As if it wasn't enough, on 19th September 2025 we saw a big entrance of two really wide angle models. That day two Air lenses were showed – the full frame 4/14, and the 2.8/9, designed to cooperate with APS-C sensors.

We've already tested the 15, 25, and 35 mm Air lenses so now we have to take care of the 1.7/56 instrument. We would like to thank Fototechnika, a company that made it possible by sending us one specimen of the tested model very quickly.
