5. Chromatic aberration
What’s interesting, Nikkor AF-S 1.4/50 could learn a lot about correcting the chromatic aberration from its half –a-century elder brother. The curve of Nikkor-S 5.8 cm f/1.4 is one of the nicest we’ve seen. The level of lateral chromatic aberration stays within the range from 0.01 to 0.03% - this aberration is unnoticeable in the whole aperture scope, then.
To be honest, we need to admit that the younger Nikkor only looks badly compared to the outstanding performance of the elder brother. In the general scale, the behavior of Nikkor AF-S mm f/1.4G is very good. The aberration holding within 0.06 and 0.09% in real situations won’t bother us at all.
