We recently tested the Canon 17-55 mm f/2.8 IS USM and as a result are experiencing some kind of déjà vu with the Tamron model. In this category, the test results for both the Canon and the tested Tamron are identical and both results were fantastic. Both lenses perform very well even with the open aperture and when shutting down the lens, the situation gets even better when including fixed focal length lens results of 40 lpmm for f/4.0-f/8.0.

As far as the edges of the frame are concerned, the only flaw we noticed is the slightly blurred picture for the open aperture. Starting with f/4.0 the situation is already very good and the Tamron is even a bit better than the three times more expensive Canon 17-55 f/2.8!
