As we’ve written recently in the commentary on the Sigma 70-200 mm f/2.8 II EX APO DG MACRO HSM test, good times have come for anybody who wants to buy a 70-200 mm f/2.8 class lens. A bit more than a year ago, we would have a limited choice between very expensive L-s, Nikkors or Sonys and the cheapest lens found on the market was a Sigma I version, which price could reach as much as 3500 zl (about 1000 USD).

The situation has ameliorated significantly nowadays. Following lower dollar/zloty rates, these expensive instruments got significantly cheaper. There is also more competition because the marked re-entered Sigma, launching a new II version of the 70-200 mm model. Finally, the Tamron SP AF 70-200 mm f/2.8 Di LD (IF) MACRO was launched on the market, the cheapest in its class. Because of such a low price ( you can buy it for as much as 2300 zl i.e. about 700 USD) it became an object of great interest and excitement, especially that, with such good lenses as a 17-50 mm f/2.8, 28-75 mm f/2.8 or 2.8/90 Macro Tamron has proved that it is a company able to produce a very good, fast instrument, which fare often better than their brand-name rivals.

That fact additionally spurred our interest and curiosity about what the Tamron 70-200 mm f/2.8 can show us; our impressions and reflections you can find in the next chapters. Enjoy!

The Fotozakupy.pl shop was kind enough to lend us the lens for our tests.
