1. Introduction

I have an impression that the biggest players on the market have completely given up the production of optics designed for APS-C/DX sensors. That feeling is emphasized by the fact that I would have a lot of difficulties to remind myself of any really interesting launch in that segment done by Canon, Nikon or Sony in the last two years.

Fortunately we have still independent producers on the market and they show that where’s the will there’s the way. Sigma has launched recently a very interesting 18-35 mm f/1.8 model, Tokina has showed two ultra wide-angle zoom lenses (11-16 mm II and 12-28 mm) and also the Korean Samyang hasn’t given any reasons to complain. After the launch of the ‘fisheye’ 8 mm f/3.5 and announcing the Samyang 10 mm f/2.8 ED AS UMC CS they released very quickly the Samyang 16 mm f/2.0 ED AS UMC CS as well.

It is a really interesting offer – a combination of an angle of view of over 80 degrees and f/2.0 aperture can be tempting. We ordered the lens for a test as soon as it hit the shelves in Poland and small wonder.
