Cons: Slow and loud AF, old lens, more difficult to put on newer cameras than newer lenses, and odd range.

Pros: despite the cons, it still works on newer cameras such as my canon t6. If you dont want to spend the $100 on a 18-55mm lens and you can find a good one for a cheaper price, this could be a good one. (If say you bought a younger person (7-10 years old) a dslr, this could be a cheap but good lense for them). I am 14, take some decent pics with a t6 and t2i but i never use this lense on the fly. I stick with the 18-55 and the 55-250mm

Summary: My pros sum it up.

Cons: Really very loud AF micromotor, ands slow too.

Pros: Decent optical quality. Inexpensive. Useful as a short telefoto lens on APS-C sensor cameras (eq. 56 - 112 mm). Small filter thread 52mm - filters unexpensive. Distance scale on the lens.

      Summary: Recomended.

Cons: focus ring to small, no srew-in lens hood possible, noisy AF, colours need post processing

Pros: very sharp stopped down (close to L quality), macro capability, small size

Summary: Of course inferior to the 17-40 L, but really o.k., if you need a cheap lens for travel. I think better than many newer kit lenses. Got some nice shots even with fullframe DSLR's
