Cons: Corner sharpness significantly different from edge. Needs to be stopped down to make full use of the image sensor. Significant CA (purple and green fringing) at wider focal lengths. Not weather-sealed.

Pros: Sharp enough and with sufficient resolution for most purposes Optical stabilisation Useful focal length range Macro capability Very high image quality across the frame is attainable at moderate FLs when stopped down Pretty well put together from high quality materials

Summary: A perfectly adequate and very versatile lens at a very reasonable price. It will produce images suitable for all but the biggest enlargements, or most demanding uses. For anyone with a very high-res sensor that is looking for ultimate image quality a better choice is the new 18-35 from Sigma ... but at a much higher price. It is sharper in the corners and has less CA ... but getting the best out of it requires top-class technique. The new f/1.4 Prime lenses in the "Art" line are a better choice still.
