Sony 50 mm f/2.8 Macro

1. Introduction

A classic fixed focal 50 mm lens is quite a simple optical construction, usually consisting of 5-6 elements. In the case of the1.7/50 model, produced by Minolta, it used to be 6 elements in 5 groups. Unfortunately, the Sony company haven’t decided yet to continue the production of that simple and cheap instrument. Instead, they offer two lenses: a 1.4/50 model, significantly cheaper than its competitors, and a very expensive 2.8/50 device with the macro mode. The latter we had an opportunity to test, courtesy of Sony Poland – we also checked whether such a vast amount of money we must pay for it is justifiable.

Information about our review method can be read in our article “How do we test lenses?"
