1. Introduction

Classic fast journalistic 24-70 mm and 70-200 mm zooms with the fixed f/2.8 aperture are like main pillars of every system. Practically every respectable optical producer tries to include such instruments in their line-up.

When it comes to Sigma they launched the Sigma A 24-70 mm f/2.8 DG DN model already in 2019, so at the time when this company just started to produce full frame Sony FE lenses,. Another journalistic lens, the Sigma A 14-24 mm f/2.8 DG DN, was shown the same year.

Sigma S 70-200 mm f/2.8 DG DN OS - Introduction

At that time it seemed that launching a 70-200 mm f/2.8 model was just a matter of several months, one year at most. Still, in case of such a lens Sigma asked us to wait as long as four years – the Sigma S 70-200 mm f/2.8 DG DN OS was officially shown only in November 2023.

Sigma S 70-200 mm f/2.8 DG DN OS - Introduction

You have to admit our patience could wear thin; we hoped that, at least, the new lens would prove to be worth waiting for. In order to check that we decided to test its optical and mechanical properties. Courtesy of K-Consult, a Sigma products distributor for Poland, we got one specimen of this lens without any problems and we could take a closer look at it.

You are also invited to get acquainted with our test procedure, described in the article "How do we test lenses?" If you feel it’s still not enough, please go to our FAQ section where you can find some further explanation.
