Lenses of a focal length of 50 mm were always treated as classic prime lenses . In fact, every manufacturer has them in its offer, and the customers may often choose among a few models differing in the minimum stop value.

In the instance of Canon we can choose among the more expensive model Canon EF 1.4/50 USM, a cheaper Canon EF 50 mm f/1.8 II , a version macro Canon EF 2.5/50 Compact Macro Standard and an extremely expensive L of the 1.0/50 parameters.
Although in the instance of digital cameras with the matrix class APS-C the classic 50 became more a portrait lens. Due to its decent price the 1.8/50 model is very popular. We decided to have a closer look at it.
