At first glance the Venus Optics company might seem to be just another Asian producer that want to claim their morsel of the digital photography market pie by offering manual lenses for reflex cameras. Still if you look closely at their line-up you might notice that their every lens is innovative, offering something more. The Venus Optics LAOWA 15 mm f/4 Wide-Angle 1:1 Macro is an ultra wide device designed for full frame but it offers a fully-fledged 1:1 macro scale as well. The Venus Optics LAOWA 60 mm f/2.8 Ultra-Macro is also a macro device but featuring the rare 2:1 reproduction scale. The Venus Optics LAOWA STF 105 mm f/2 (T3.2) telephoto lens includes a special element to its optical construction which guarantees nicely blurred backgrounds; additionally it offers you a second ring to control the second diaphragm. As if it wasn’t enough the company have been working on a full frame 2.8/12 lens – an optical device with unique parameters.
The FoxFoto company we’ve been successfully cooperating with for many years is also the Polish distributor of the Venus Optical equipment so we had no problems whatsoever with obtaining one of the lenses mentioned above for our tests. We decided to look closer at the Venus Optics LAOWA STF 105 mm f/2 (T3.2) and our impressions are presented in the following chapters.
You are also invited to get acquainted with our test procedure, described in the article "How do we test lenses?" If you feel it’s still not enough, please go to our FAQ section where you can find some further explanation.
