The Irix 1.4/30 is a manual lens and you set the focus with a 45 mm ring. Most of its surface occupies rubber padding with fine indentations and one protrusion which is supposed to be placed right under your thumb and make the whole process of focusing easier. Below the rubber padding you find a distance scale expressed in feet and meters. The ring itself moves smoothly and is properly damped. Its focus throw amounts to about 160 degrees, a value that allows you very precise settings.

Additionally the manual focus ring can be locked in place with the help of another ring, dedicated just for this task.

We are a tad surprised by the fact that there is no depth of field scale on the barrel of this lens even though the producers decided to add a distance scale. A DOF scale is a standard feature in case of a manual lens with mechanical focus after all...
