Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 12-40 mm f/2.8 ED PRO

1. Introduction

In the era of reflex cameras with 4/3 sensors Olympus has always tried to make the most of the fact that such a sensor size allows you to construct really fast lenses. When it comes to standard zooms, you could find such pearls as the Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 12–60 mm f/2.8–4.0 SWD or the Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 14–35 mm f/2.0 SWD in their line-up.

In the case of lenses for mirrorless cameras the company hasn’t been as generous – the customers have been offered either another version of the 14-42 mm kit lens, megazooms or a sealed but still slow aperture-wise Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 12–50 mm f/3.5–6.3 ED EZ.

Panasonic was the first company which decided to make a serious move in in that segment – in 2012 they presented the Panasonic G X VARIO 12–35 mm f/2.8 ASPH. P.O.I.S. Olympus responded and in September 2013 when they launched the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 12–40 mm f/2.8 ED PRO.
