1. Introduction

A series of three simple f/2.8 instruments of 19, 30, and 60 mm focal lengths, optically very good and cheap, started the line-up of Sigma’s mirrorless lenses. Their price-performance ratio was very advantageous and they came as Sony E and Micro 4/3 mount versions.

In February 2016 that line-up was enlarged by the Sigma C 30 mm f/1.4 DC DN which fared exceedingly well in our tests. The excellent performance and good parameters meant that, like the previous models, its price-performance ratio was really impressive.

In October 2017 Sigma took another step by presenting the Sigma C 16 mm f/1.4 DC DN. It featured great parameters; when it comes to the Sony E mount, the lens is an equivalent of the classic full frame 24 mm, and when it comes to the Micro 4/3 mount, you get an equivalent of 32 mm, very close to the classic 35 mm device. We tested that model and it fared very well in our test too.

Next year saw another Sigma launch in that segment because in September 2018 we were shown the Sigma C 56 mm f/1.4 DC DN – once again a device designed for Micro 4/3 and Sony E mirrorless cameras. Remembering how well previous models fared in our tests we were really looking forward to checking optical and mechanical properties of this one

We would like to thank the Sigma ProCentrum company for sending us very quickly the final specimen of the lens for testing.

You are also invited to get acquainted with our test procedure, described in the article "How do we test lenses?" If you feel it’s still not enough, please go to our FAQ section where you can find some further explanation.
