1. Introduction

In July 2019 Sigma showed their first fixed focal C line lens (the C letter meaning Contemporary), designed for full frame mirrorless Sony, Sigma, and Panasonic cameras. That launch was quite untypical because we were shown the C 45 mm f/2.8 DG DN model. It stuck out with its unusual parameters but also with an original casing, mostly made of metal.

On 1st December 2020 we found out these features would be common for the whole line of Contemporary primes because the next three lenses, the 3.5/24, the 2/35, and the 2/65 were similar and shared the same high build quality. All of their casings were dominated by metal. The following chart shows a comparison between all Sigma C lenses presented so far.

At the beggining of September 2021 it became obvious Sigma didn't say their last word yet. They launched two new models: the C 24 mm f/2 DG DN and the C 90 mm f/2.8 DG DN. Both these launches are very interesting because you get one wide angle lens with a sensible aperture fastnes and a small, handy portrait lens. If the optics quality of the new models is comparable to the quality of the Sigma 2/35 and 2/65, tested by us not so long ago, we are pretty sure they will become a market hit in no time. Before we test the final specimens thoroughly we want to present our first impressions concerning pre-production devices. In the next chapters you can find our hands-on impressions and first quick tests of the new Sigmas – enjoy your reading!
