9. Ghosting and flares

Nikkor's designers are proud to use special Super Integrated Coatings (SIC), which are supposed to assure perfect color reproduction, as well as diminish reflections and flares. The pictures below show that the special coatings are not so ideal. All kinds of artifacts and flares, although not very intense, are still visible at focal lengths from 18 to 70 mm. The situation improves later, when working against bright light we get pictures with only a slightly poorer contrast.
