1. Introduction

There are not many Micro 4/3 fast ultra wide-angle lenses available on the market. It is a bit strange because in case of full frame you see more and more 20-21 mm f/1.4-1.8 models. A system with a sensor two times smaller should also offer equally fast devices with angles of view approaching 100 degrees.

So far owners of Micro 4/3 bodies had to make use of lenses produced by third party manufacturers but their offer features just a few manual models that we present in the following chart. Among them, only the Voigtlander has a really good aperture fastness but it also provides the narrowest angle of view and, additionally, it proved to be the weakest of the whole Nokton line designed for the Micro 4/3 system. The Meike and the Laowa don't impress us with their apertures for a change.

That's why in May 2022 we were overjoyed hearing about the launch of the Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 9 mm f/1.7 ASPH. Finally we got a fast lens with an angle of view of 100 degrees, which, additionally, was very small, shapely, perfect for moderately priced 55 mm filters. Courtesy of the Polish Panasonic subsidiary that sent us one specimen of this lens for testing purposes, we were abie to check its properties – the results can be found in the following chapters.
