The Sigma C 50 mm f/2 DG DN competes in a very difficult category. It will face not only a whole series of cheap, simple 1.8/50 class constructions but also such excellent instruments as the Voigtlander Apo Lanthar 2/50 which used to be one of our record-breaking lenses in the resolution category. The Sigma will have to prove its value also in comparison with such lenses as the Sony FE 50 mm f/2.5G.

We think the duel with the Apo Lanthar might be especially interesting. Both lenses are very solid, with metal casings, both produced in Japan. The Voigtlander is smaller nad lighter but it doesn't have autofocus. The suggested retail price of the Sigma, $650, is also an asset; currently you have to pay almost $880 for the Apo Lanthar.

It's true that the Voigtlander set the bar really high but after looking at sample shots it seems the Sigma might be its worthy opponent. Of course we are all in favour of such a situation – the more good quality lenses are available on the market the better for fans of photography.
