Pros: - happy alternative to either heavy, bad or outdated designs from Sony in this field - sharp where it counts - light and portable for f2.8
Summary: This is a good, flexible bread-and-butter lens. It is decently sharp wide open at all focal lengths, generally very sharp in the center and improves as you stop down to f4.0. I love to have f2.8 in such a compact design. Overall quality does not disappoint in all areas. I am happy this lens exists for Sony APS-C. Sony should really come up with a new design, say f4.0 starting at 16 mm and going to 70 mm and being MUCH lighter than the 2.8/16-55 and delivering the quality of the 4/10-20. Sigma have filled the gap, but 18-50 can somtimes be too restrictive. Contrary to earlier designs from Sigma some years ago, I had no significant decentering issues with this lens. I tested 3 copies, all were acceptable, and 2 where really good. Sony should learn from Sigma here.

Cons: No aperture ring. Not fully aperture sealed.
Pros: Excellent image quality. Constant f2.8 aperture over full zoom range. Small size. Light weight.
Summary: This is a great little lens for a broad range of shooting situations. I traded my Fuji XF 16-80 to purchase this lens, and am pleased with the decision.
